Where to Buy Faux Flowers That Look Real

Design Tips

19 Apr

Fresh flowers will always be beautiful, but if you’ve ever wondered where to buy faux flowers that actually look real, you’re not alone. For everyday decorating, faux stems have become a practical favorite in our home. Over the years, I’ve realized fresh flowers simply aren’t the easiest option for daily use. They don’t last long, the require upkeep, and sometimes bring in a little extra nature inside with them.

Why they’ve become a staple in our home

For me, it really comes down to simplicity.

I don’t have a large garden to pull from, and while we do have lilacs and hydrangeas, their blooming season is short. Faux florals allow me to enjoy the look throughout the season without the upkeep.

They’re also:

  • low maintenance
  • reusable year after year
  • easy to swap seasonally
  • cleaner (no dirt, no bugs)

Once I started investing in better quality stems, I realized they could look just as beautiful in a room as fresh flowers—especially when styled simply.

What Makes Faux Flowers Look Real

Not all faux flowers are created equal, and I’ve learned to be a little selective when I shop.

I usually look for softer, more natural and neutral colors like whites, creams, and soft pinks.  In my experience, these colors always look the most realistic and work will with cottage-style decor.

I also like to mix difference florals together, similar to a fresh bouquet, rather than using all one stem.  Adding faux greenery is another trick that can soften up the arrangement and help it feel more natural or organic.

My go-to flowers are:

  • hydrangeas
  • roses
  • lilacs
  • dahlias
  • limelight stems
  • tulips
  • peonies

These all lend themselves really well to a relaxed, cottage-style arrangement and there are always good options available.

My Go-To Places to Buy Faux Flowers

If you’ve been wondering where to buy faux flowers that look realistic and hold up year after year, these are the places I come back to again and again. They all vary in price, but all of them have good options.

Amazon

My all-time favorite are these lime light hydrangeas.  They’re oversized, beautiful, and very affordable. I’ve reordered them multiple times and use them in several rooms throughout our home including our living room and guest bedroom.

Amazon is one of my top sources for realistic faux flowers. There’s a huge variety, and once you find a good stem, it’s easy to reorder it again later. These tulips are a favorite as well. When they arrived I actually thought I made a mistake and ordered fresh ones. It wasn’t until I opened and touched them that I realized they weren’t real.

Target’s Hearth & Hand Line (Of course)

Every spring, I make a point to check Target’s floral section—especially the Hearth & Hand collection.

I would say a large percentage of the stems around our home are from Target. They seem to get better every year, and every year I stock up. The colors are usually soft and cottage-friendly, and the price point is hard to beat.

Afloral

If you’re looking for higher-end, realistic faux flowers, Afloral is a great option.

Their stems tend to cost a little more, but the quality is excellent.  I bought these rose bushels from Afloral years ago and still use them regularly. They’re so full and realistic, they come out every year.

These are the types of pieces I don’t mind investing in because I know I’ll use them for years. I recently used them again in our small front entry refresh and they worked perfectly there.

Magnolia

Magnolia has a beautiful selection, especially when it comes to fall stems and seasonal greenery.

I usually shop there when I want something a little different or when I’m looking for warmer colors to use later in the year. Many of my favorite fall stems have come from Magnolia.

Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn is another reliable source for quality faux florals.

Their arrangements tend to be full, classic, and polished.  They are on the higher end price-wise, but the quality is consistently good.  In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with buying faux stems and greenery from them. See how I styled these lilacs from Pottery Barn in our pre-spring living room refresh.

Hobby Lobby

Hobby Lobby is great if you want to build arrangements yourself. It’s a good place for budget-friendly stems, greenery or filler stems, and for finding quick swaps to mix with more statement stems.

Hobby Lobby is also one of my favorite places to pick up faux hydrangeas, geraniums, greenery, and filler stems. I’ve used them in our small front porch, spring kitchen, potting bench makeover, and bedroom refresh over the years.

Final Thoughts

Fresh flowers will always have their place, but for everyday decorating, faux flowers are one of my favorite easy updates.

When you choose the right stems, they can look just as beautiful and can be enjoyed year after year. If you’re just starting out, begin with a few neutral stems and a little greenery. Over time, you’ll find the styles and stores you love most and naturally build a collection that works throughout your home.
