For the last several Christmas seasons, I’ve kept our home pretty neutral with all the usual whites, faux greenery and vintage vibes. When it comes to Christmas dining room decor, I’ve taken the same simple approach year after year. This year, though, I decided to change things up just a bit and bring in a touch of red for Christmas.

Once I made that decision, it felt like the perfect excuse to finally pull out my vintage red transferware. I’ve collected these pieces over time and usually keep them tucked away, but paired with an otherwise neutral dining room, they felt just right for the holidays.
This Christmas dining room ended up being one of my favorite spaces to style — not because it’s over-the-top, but because it feels warm, familiar, and easy to live with all season long.
Adding Red to Neutral Christmas Dining Room Decor
If you’ve been following along this season, you may have noticed that I added small touches of red in our living room as well — mostly through quilts, pillows, and red velvet bows on the tree. I wanted the dining room to feel connected to the rest of the house, and using the red transferware helped tie the spaces together without overdoing it.

Instead of adding red everywhere, I kept it contained to the table. The dishes do all the work, so I was able to keep the rest of the space fairly simple. It’s a good reminder that you don’t need a lot of color — a little bit can go a long way.

If you’d like to see how that pop of red shows up elsewhere in our home, I shared more details in this post about our Christmas living room, where I brought out red quilts, pillows, and red velvet bows for the tree.

Starting with the Christmas Dining Room Table Decor
The table is always where I start when decorating the dining room for Christmas. This year, the only new piece I added was this ruffled tablecloth from Amazon. I’m definitely a sucker for ruffles, and this one had vintage style and gave everything that cozy cottage look I love.

Once the tablecloth was down, layering was easy:
- Vintage red and white transferware dishes
- Brass accents via candelabras, wine glasses and a cake plate
- My favorite mercury glass Christmas trees
- Large vase with faux greenery of course
The mix feels collected and relaxed — exactly how I want our Christmas table to feel. Nothing here is overly themed — it’s just soft holiday layering that works all season long.

Using Mostly What I Already Had for Our Christmas Dining Room
One of my favorite things about this Christmas dining room is how little I actually added. Aside from the tablecloth and greenery, everything else was already here.

The red transferware changed the entire feel of the room without requiring a full overhaul. If you’re feeling stuck decorating for Christmas, this is a great reminder to shop your own home first. Sometimes pulling out one forgotten collection is all it takes to make a space feel fresh again.

Pulling the Dining Room Together

Decorating this Christmas dining room was really about keeping things simple and working with what I already had. Adding the red transferware was enough to shift the mood without changing everything else, and I love how it ties in with the rest of the house this season. If you’ve been feeling unsure about changing up your holiday decor, this is a good reminder that you don’t need to start from scratch. Sometimes one small change — like bringing out a favorite collection — is all it takes to make a space feel new again.
