Pink has always been my favorite color, although you wouldn’t necessarily know it by looking around my house these days. Years ago, I decorated with lots of reds and greens. Eventually, I traded those colors for whites, creams, and soft neutrals, and that’s pretty much where I’ve stayed ever since. I still love decorating with neutrals, especially because they make it so easy to change things up without having to start over. But every once in a while, I get the urge to bring in a little color. And this time, it was pink.
What started with a simple pair of pink gingham curtains turned into a little refresh throughout the house. Before I knew it, I was adding floral pillows, pink bedding, and a few vintage-inspired pieces to rooms that had been mostly neutral for years.
The best part? I didn’t have to change any of my furniture or completely redecorate. I just added a few things that worked with what I already had.

So today, I’m sharing some simple pink cottage decor ideas and how I brought my favorite color back into our home.

It all started with Pink Gingham Curtains
I hadn’t really planned on decorating with pink again. In fact, I was perfectly happy with all my whites and creams. Then I came across a pair of pink gingham curtains for our guest bedroom, and that was all it took.

I’ve always loved gingham, especially in a cottage-style home. It’s a classic pattern that works well with florals, antiques, and simple white furniture. Once I had those curtains, I started thinking about what else I could add to the room. And wouldn’t you know it, suddenly I was noticing pink everywhere.
Pretty floral pillows, soft pink bedding, and more gingham. It seemed like every time I went shopping, something pink caught my eye.
Adding Pink Cottage Decor to the Living Room

Our living room has been decorated with whites and creams for quite a while, and I still love that look. The white slipcovered furniture gives me a simple starting point, and I can easily change the room by switching out pillows or adding a different throw.
For this refresh, I brought in some pink gingham pillows and paired them with floral pillows featuring shades of pink, green, and cream from Pottery Barn. I love how the two patterns look together. The gingham is simple, while the florals add a little more detail. Because they share similar colors, they work well together without making the room feel too busy.

I also kept my white quilted throw on the sofa, along with the neutral curtains and the other pieces I’ve collected over the years. My antique cabinet filled with white ironstone stayed right where it was, and the darker wood looks especially nice next to the pink floral pillows.
That’s one of the things I love most about decorating with neutrals. You can bring in a new color without having to change everything else.
Mixing Pink Gingham and Floral Pillows
If you’re thinking about adding pink to a neutral room, pillows are probably one of the easiest places to start. You don’t need a matching set, either.

I like mixing a larger pattern, such as florals, with something simpler like gingham. The different patterns add interest, but repeating the same shades of pink helps them work together.

A few things that worked well in my living room:
- Using pink gingham pillows alongside larger floral prints.
- Keeping plenty of white and cream around the patterned pillows.
- Repeating the pink on different pieces of furniture.
- Leaving my existing antiques, artwork, and neutral accessories in place.
It’s a simple way to add color without making the whole room feel different. And when I’m ready for another change, I can just swap out the pillows
A Little Pink in the Cottage Kitchen Nook

After adding pink to the living room, I decided our kitchen nook could use a little color, too. For this little refresh, I added some of the same pink floral and gingham pillows to the benches.
I love how the pink looks with the warm wood table and terra cotta floors. The green in the floral pillows also works nicely with the other colors already in the room.
On the table, I kept things simple with a soft pink-striped runner, brass candlesticks, a floral arrangement, and a few vintage pieces. I also brought out a pink transferware-style pitcher and some floral linens.
Those small details were enough to carry the pink through the room without changing the overall look of the kitchen.

Using Vintage Finds with Pink Decor
One of my favorite ways to decorate is by mixing vintage pieces with newer finds. And pink cottage decor works especially well with antiques.
Old transferware, white ironstone, brass candlesticks, and vintage dishes all look beautiful alongside soft pink florals and gingham.
I especially like pairing pink with the darker wood tones in our home. The contrast keeps everything from looking too light or overly matched.

If you collect vintage dishes or have a few old pieces tucked away, try bringing them out when you’re adding a new color to a room.
Sometimes the things you already own are exactly what you need.
Soft Pink Cottage Bedroom Ideas
Of course, I couldn’t forget the guest bedroom, especially since that’s where this whole pink decorating idea started.
The pink gingham curtains made the biggest difference. Against the white walls and furniture, they add just enough color while keeping the room light and airy. I also added a new comforter with a soft pink floral pattern and layered it with my white bedding. Then I brought in one of the pink rose pillows I’d been using in the other rooms.

I love how the larger floral pattern on the pillow looks with the smaller print on the bedding and the gingham curtains. The room still has all the things I loved before: antiques, vintage finds, cottage décor, but the pink gives everything a fresh look.
Simple Ways to Add Pink to Neutral Decor
After making these little changes, I was reminded how easy it can be to introduce color into a neutral home. You really don’t need to buy much or make any permanent changes. Here are a few things I’d suggest if you want to try adding pink to your own cottage-style rooms.

Start with something small. A couple of pillows, a throw, or a vintage pitcher can make a surprising difference.
- Mix patterns that share similar colors. Gingham and florals are a favorite combination of mine, especially when there’s plenty of white or cream mixed in.
- Work with the colors you already have. Pink looks lovely with whites and creams, but it also works with greens, browns, natural wood, and vintage brass.
- Use your existing decor. You don’t need to replace anything. I kept almost everything the same and simply added pink here and there.
- Repeat the color in a few places. Using similar pillows and accessories in different rooms helped carry the pink throughout the house.
And don’t feel like you have to decorate an entire room around one color. Sometimes a few small changes are all you need.

Bringing a Little Pink Back into Our Home
I have to say, I’ve really enjoyed bringing pink back into our home. After years of decorating with neutrals, it’s been fun to add some of my favorite color again.

And what I love most is that the house still feels like us. The whites and creams are still there, along with the antiques, vintage dishes, and furniture I’ve collected over the years. The pink just adds something a little different.

If you’ve been thinking about introducing some color into your own neutral rooms, I hope these pink cottage decor ideas give you a little inspiration. You might be surprised how much a pair of curtains or a few new pillows can change a room.
