After Christmas comes down and the tree, the lights, and all the holiday décor is put away, the house can feel a little… flat. It’s technically still winter, but once the evergreens and cedar are packed away, I’m usually ready to move on — not quite to spring, but to something lighter, fresher, and a little more cheerful than full-on winter décor. This small pre-spring living room decor refresh was my way of bringing in a little light after Christmas, without letting go of winter entirely.

That’s exactly where this little refresh in our TV room came in. I wasn’t looking for a big change, just a few simple updates that would bring in some light and warmth while keeping the space cozy for the rest of winter.

Pre-Spring Living Room Decor After Christmas
This refresh wasn’t about a full makeover. I wanted to keep the winter coziness we still need — the heavier quilts and layered throws that make the room feel comfortable — while adding just a small touch of spring. A few simple changes were enough to shift the feel of the room without losing its warmth. I had my eye on these faux lilacs for a while, and this refresh finally gave me a reason to bring them home. Once the holiday greenery was put away, I wanted something floral that still felt somewhat appropriate for winter. The lilacs bring in something floral without pushing the room too far out of winter.

What’s New in This Pre-Spring Living Room Decor Refresh
I kept this update intentionally simple. A few new pieces were enough to make the room feel fresher without changing what already worked. I first shared these ruffled floral pillows in a previous post about decorating our small cottage living room, and they’ve been a favorite ever since — you can see how I styled them there if you want more cottage-style inspiration.
- Faux lilacs from Pottery Barn to bring in a small touch of spring once the holiday greenery was put away.
- Textured pillows from the Hearth & Hand line at Target. They feel light and spring-like, but the texture still works well with the cozy layers we use all winter.
- A ruffled white coverlet from Amazon, because you can never go wrong with ruffles — especially when you want something soft and versatile.

Adding just a few items like this made the room feel refreshed to me, without losing the comfort we still need this time of year.
Keeping the Room Cozy While Lightening Things Up
One thing I’m always mindful of during this in-between season is balance. Even though I’m ready for spring, winter isn’t finished — and neither is our need for cozy layers.

- Chunky knit throws
- A thick quilt for warmth and pattern
- Plenty of cozy pillows layered in, making the room comfortable for cold evenings

In this room, I kept:
The balance comes from mixing in whites, creams, and floral pillows, while the quilts and throws make sure it still feels like winter belongs here too.
If you’re transitioning your own space, this mix is key. You don’t need to choose one season or the other — you can let them overlap. I’ve shared more about layering with quilts in another post, where I talk about using a quilt, curtains, and a rug to refresh a bedroom without making big changes.

Why These Simple Changes Work
What I like about these small changes is how easily they’ll transition once spring actually arrives. When the weather starts to warm up, I’ll probably add a few more floral stems, keep the coverlet in place, and leave the pillows just as they are. The heavier quilts and throws can be swapped for lighter-weight layers, and the room will naturally feel more like spring without much effort. It’s a simple approach to pre-spring living room decor that makes the seasonal transition feel easy and natural.

Final Thoughts on a Cozy Winter-to-Spring Refresh
This kind of pre-spring refresh is less about decorating for a season and more about responding to how your home feels. After the holidays, I’m ready for something lighter, but I still want the comfort of winter layers. Making a few small changes in this room was enough to shift the vibe without starting over — and it sets the space up to transition easily once spring actually arrives.
