Simple Cottage-Style Updates with a New Quilt, Curtains & Rug

Bedroom· Winter

14 Nov

Once winter sets in, all I want is a bedroom that feels warm, soft, and easy to settle into at night.  Our bedroom may be small, but it has so much cottage personality — which is why simple updates are my go-to when I want it to feel completely refreshed.  This cozy winter bedroom refresh started with one beautiful quilt… and then everything else followed.

Starting with a New Quilt

Whenever I’m craving a change, I almost always start with the bedding.  I found this gorgeous quilt from Pottery Barn, and it instantly inspired the rest of the winter look. The pattern feels nostalgic and handmade — the kind of quilt you want layered at the foot of the bed for extra coziness on cold mornings. I left the rest of the bedding simple and white to let the quilt stand out, and because those white layers always help the room feel lighter in the darker months.

Cozy, Textured Curtains for Winter

One change I knew I wanted this year was heavier curtains. Not blackout — I still love having natural light filter in — but something with more texture and warmth. I found these pleated textured curtains on Amazon, and I’m honestly so impressed by them. They have the look of higher-end fabric, hang beautifully, and feel just right for winter without making the room feel dark.

They have this soft, tailored feel that upgrades the room giving it a soft and layered look without feeling too formal.  Even with the thicker fabric, they still filter in light during the day.  And the best part? They’re budget-friendly. I love them so much I’m eyeing a second pair for our TV room. They’re perfect for a cozy winter bedroom refresh!

A Darker Jute Rug for the Season

The other small change that made a big difference was swapping out the rug. I wanted something darker and cozier for winter — just enough contrast to ground the room. This darker jute rug (another Amazon find) brought in the warmth I was missing. It adds texture, richness, and a more collected cottage feel, especially underneath the antique wood pieces.

A Few Simple Changes, A Whole New Scene

That’s the best part of cottage decorating, even small changes can make the whole space feel refreshed. Between the quilt, the textured cozy curtains, and the deeper-toned rug, the room feels refreshed without losing any of the charm I love. The whole room feels a bit warmer, a bit cozier, and ready for winter.
