Why I Chose a Vintage Style Refrigerator
Vintage style appliances can add instant character to a kitchen, and the refrigerator is no exception. When it comes to vintage inspired refrigerators, there are so many options and sizes available now. They’re more than just functional—they’re focal points. A vintage style refrigerator is one of those pieces that can elevate a kitchen from basic to beautiful. And while they’re definitely an investment, I think they’re worth every penny—especially if you want something that feels special.

Custom Cottage Charm: Our Take on the Vintage Style Refrigerator
When we first moved in to this home, we had just a plain white refrigerator in the kitchen that, well … looked pretty plain. I had my heart set on a vintage looking refrigerator—not necessarily a true antique, but something vintage inspired minus the hassle of defrosting or unexpected breakdowns. We explored the options and price points (and there are quite a few out there!), but in the end, we decided to get creative.

I mentioned in a previous post that we bought our 1920’s house from our good friends who designed and built the kitchen cabinetry. We teamed up with him to transform our standard fridge into something special. He crafted two custom wood panels to fit the refrigerator doors perfectly. I added vintage-inspired hardware—hinges, handles, and even a little Ice Box label. It instantly gave us that vintage style refrigerator look I was craving, and it blended seamlessly into our cottage-style kitchen.
We had this refrigerator in our kitchen for many years and I absolutely loved it. But as our family grew, we need a bigger one. Now, this cute little vintage inspired refrigerator is in our basement as an extra refrigerator for drinks. It looks so cute down there too, next to our antique farm sink. I was sad to see it go down to the basement; however, it looks pretty good down there too.

Fun fact: this refrigerator even made a cameo at our daughter’s wedding reception! The venue’s kitchen was under renovation, so we placed it at the end of the buffet line for guests to grab cold drinks. I added two small chalkboards for an added touch, and they ended up staying on ever since.

Final Thoughts
If you’re looking to add personality to your kitchen, a vintage style refrigerator is a fantastic choice. They are like a piece of furniture in your kitchen that can elevate your kitchen to the next level. Whether you love cottage, farmhouse, or retro styles, this appliance brings a perfect mix of function and nostalgia.
